gastronome
grandmas

Today the SF Chron posted the second installment in their culinary grandma series. It's a neat idea - pair up a young person who has memories of their cultural food and doesn't know how to cook it with an older person who wants to pass on their knowledge. It combines two things I value highly - cooking and making sure we listen to the stories of our elders. They won't be around forever, and they have so much to tell....

The first installment.
Today's installment.

This is a BRILLIANT idea. I consider myself VERY lucky that my grandma has been able to pass along her recipes and traditions over the years... even though we don't live near to each other anymore, she's always willing to talk about food with me and pass along advice or answer questions I have. I know I got my love of cooking from her. :)

Wow that is so great. I'm lucky my grandma is still around and loves passing on her southern recipes.. She came over before Christmas and showed me how to make pralines (which, she says, are properly pronounced PRAW-leens) and I took pictures. Maybe gastronome would like to rent a grandma (virtually)?
