The Golden Globe, John Varley
Great fun. Good crossover between sci-fi and the theatre/movie community. Varley writes characters you can engage in, and twists you can laugh at. He's also succeeded as the best (in my opinion) sci-fi writer to turn gender-changing and the various sexual preferences/identifications that go along with it into something realistic, non-phobic, and just part of the story. Recommended!
