Lost: A Novel, Gregory Maguire
It's a bit sad; i haven't enjoyed anything by Maguire as much as i enjoyed Wicked, so even with a good read, i am left feeling a little disappointed. I liked Lost better than Tales, but it still seemed to be reaching for the magic, a bit. Lost is more of a melting-pot than his other novels, and i love the fact that our heroine is a jumbled-up-author-girl. The story just doesn't quite hang together convincingly, overall. I bought this remaindered for a few dollars, and it was worth that. I wouldn't recommend paying full-price for a hardcover or trade paperback, though. Definitely worth a discounted purchase, a library visit, or a loan, though.

I hated the ending to this book. I have loved Gregory Maguire since I picked up Confessions of and Ugly Stepsister. The book was pretty interesting and down right scary until the end. I hated the way he left things unresolved. Was Winnie a ghost herself? Who was the "HE" she was wondering would be waiting for her? Did she pass the spirit only the looney who was about to die, or what? I like neat little bows put on things, and this book was irritating because it was not tied up.
