meet new employee, same as old employee

I signed my new employment agreement today. Monday is my official start date. I have an orientation to go to. I was re-introduced to the team at our weekly meeting today, and had to tell an embarrassing story per new-employee policy (I got out of the storytelling my first week here because we were crunching and had a very abbreviated meeting). A couple of people have welcomed me to the team tonight. This after working here for ten weeks. It's somewhat surreal.

This week started off pretty crappy for me, but got progressively better. I'm just far enough behind my task list to feel motivated but not so far behind that I'm panicking. House hunting stuff is starting to gain momentum. And next week we get a wee getaway!

yeah i know

Yeah, I've been slacking on the posting.

Things are good. Our E3 push went very well; we finished our demos a couple of days early (by working 60-to-80-hour weeks), and they look fabulous. Morale was surprisingly good through the crunch, probably largely due to the overall lack of suction in the game.

The Company offered me a permanent position today. I informally accepted; some Tiny-God-related tee-crossing and eye-dotting formalities remain.

X-Men 2 was awesome. I cried. I've been wanting to see this stuff since I was 10. Does anyone else associate the X-Men with the Knack song "My Sharona"? I think I was re-reading my first issue of the comic, #125, over and over, fantasizing about a live-action X-Men TV series, the week that "My Sharona" was getting endless radio airplay. This song is my Proustian madeleine. I didn't really realize until recently that the song's basically sorta pedophilic. But hey, Anna Paquin! :D

Just kidding. Rogue wasn't even in the X-Men in those days.

is that what that was?

So, the Agonist has this great item here, but it refers to a UPI story which has since been altered, so the "gem" of a quote isn't there any more. But still, I can't stop rolling it around in my brainmeats.

"There will be no further military adventures during the remainder of the president's first term."

But... but... what about the war on terrorism? What about the axis of evil? What about weapons of mass destruction and liberating oppressed oil fields people who dream of democracy?

10/30/2003: UPI story altered, Agonist link gone, but here's another reference.
