russell versus the intern

"did you implement controller-check in the front end?"
"yes."
"it broke language-select in the front end."
"it shouldn't have."
"it did."
"that's too bad. who cares about languages anyway?"
"you know, i think this sliding door on your office comes right off? and i'm pretty sure i can fit the whole thing in your mouth."
"you didn't want to say 'mouth', there, did you."
"no, actually, it was the first word that came to mind. gonna forward you a bug now."

(this entire exchange was, actually, performed with good humor.)

The Four Forces

My 2nd-level manager sent me a query about "the forces pulling on my time" today. Those forces, of course, are "lift", "drag", "thrust", and "gravity".

"Lift" occurs when I get positive feedback from my managers. "Thrust" occurs when I look at the calendar and see how little time we have left. "Drag" occurs when the three highest-priority things on my task list are blocked waiting for other people. "Gravity" is the force produced when I realize my code has a nasty low-level bug that's going to take me all day to isolate and fix.

the other amusing thing today

Equally, if differently, amusing as my bluff being called, was this item from one of our programming interns:

If I never, ever see this error message again it will be too soon:

Error: illegal implicit conversion from 'void ****' to 'void ***'
